The Quarantine Blues: Musicians Killing Time In Isolation, Part Six - Jason Narducy

In an effort to formalize our Quarantine Blues series a bit, we’ve devised a 5-question quiz to pose to the musicians & other media figures sharing in the Covid-19 stay-at-home orders sweepstakes. There will be new entries every coupla days.

Jason Narducy is probably best known as the touring bassist for both Superchunk and Bob Mould, providing a lot of energy, great harmonies, and big smiles along with some solid low end. When he’s not on the road backing up Bob or Mac, he’s playing in his own band Split Single or as a solo artist doing a tour of fans’ living rooms. He recently provided lyrics & music for the play Verboten (based on one of his previous bands) that had a very successful run cut short by Covid-19 restrictions. We caught up with Jason from his home in Evanston, IL.

1) How are you getting your live music fix? Any live streams or Youtube clips that standout?

I've been watching a lot of comedy. Schitts Creek, stand-up specials, and random bits like this Andy Kaufman clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSYV-nEE300

2) What else have you been watching, listening to and reading to pass the time?

I've been going on daily runs to get fresh air and try to be active. It helps me run when I have rock in the headphones. Lately, I've been digging Kills Birds, Cable Ties, Mannequin Pussy, Deeper, FACS, Gouge Away, and Steph Chura. I'm reading Less by Andrew Sean Greer and Parking the Moose by Dave Hill.

3) How are you managing (or not) to stay creative / healthy?

I've been making edited shows at home with my kids of silly skits interspersed with me playing songs on guitar. I call it "Home Show with Jason Narducy" and I post them to youtube.

I also wrote the music to a musical called Verböten that did very well in Chicago right before the pandemic. I have been posting different versions of those songs (all demos at varying levels of production quality) to bandcamp: https://splitsingle.bandcamp.com

4) Food Time! Have you been cooking in or carrying out? Favorite recipes or restaurants you're supporting? What's in the liquor cabinet? Share your quarantine eating and drinking habits and changes!

Our routine is that I shop once a week and cook most nights. It's been a lot of comfort foods lately. I make a chili mac, a bolognese for pasta, and I grill a couple times per week. We have local restaurants we like to support here in Evanston, IL so we do that once a week.
