I’d Really Like to See Steve Jordan Play With The Stones - by Colin Gawel
I love Charlie Watts. You love Charlie Watts. We all love Charlie Watts. Charlie is my darling. But if one man has to sit in with the Stones so Mick doesn’t have to refund approximately fifty billion dollars in ticket sales while Charlie is laid-up from emergency surgery, that man has got to be Steve Jordan. Personally I thought me and my wallet were done with the Stones after catching their incredible show at Ohio Stadium in 2015. But the idea of Steve behind the kit has me mulling over catching just one more show in 2021.
I said it. You heard me. The idea of Steve playing drums instead of Charlie actually increases my chances of seeing one more Stones show. And I still love Charlie Watts.
Who is this Steve Jordan follow anyway? This is one of my favorite rock n roll stories of all time.
He can also play drums pretty well.
Steve was the original drummer on Late Night with David Letterman. James Brown typically refused to play with anyone but his hand-picked musicians. However, the World’s Most Dangerous Band was so good he let them back him up on the show. This performance was completely unscripted. Steve called it one of the highlights of his career.
..
And of course, Steve founded and co-wrote all the songs with Keith Richards & The X-Pensive Winos. Nobody loves rock n roll and the drums more than Steve Jordan. I'm sorry Charlie will miss these gigs but thrilled that Steve will have the opportunity to carve out this little niche in music history. He deserves it .

Colin Gawel founded Pencilstorm and wrote this at Colin’s Coffee. He plays solo with The League Bowlers and in the band Watershed who once partied with Steve and the Winos while recording a record at the Power Station in NYC. True story.
