The Quarantine Blues: Musicians Killing Time In Isolation, Part Five - Erica Blinn

In an effort to formalize our Quarantine Blues series a bit, we’ve devised a 5-question quiz to pose to the musicians & other media figures sharing in the Covid-19 stay-at-home orders sweepstakes. There will be new entries every coupla days.

Erica Blinn is a Columbus, Ohio singer/songwriter currently residing in Nashville, TN. and is the best female singer I’ve ever known personally.  In the past I have had the great honor & privilege of following five paces behind her, carrying her guitar and later tuning said guitar.  I have also had the good fortune to introduce her onstage, and that introduction remains true to this day: “Anytime I hear her sing it’s an occasion of sin. Ladies & gentlemen, Erica Blinn.” - Ricki C.

1) How are you getting your live music fix? Any live streams or Youtube clips that standout?

I've watched a few Instagram and Facebook live things but nothing really stands out.

2) What else have you been watching, listening to and reading to pass the time?

I have a bunch of favorite shows on various streaming services that I rotate through. I started watching a couple of new (to me) shows that I'm really into; Dexter and Kath & Kim (on Netflix). There's another show I love on Netflix called Shrill. I  also love watching 3rd Rock from the Sun (on Amazon Prime).

I have a year's worth of Sun magazine that my Aunt & Uncle got me one year for my birthday that I barely read any of and now I'm digging into that.

I'm also reading an amazing book by Columbus' own Hanif Abdurraquib called They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us.

A few of my friends have released records recently so I've been listening to them: Lilly Hiatt, Kristen Englenz, and Van Darien.

3) How are you managing (or not) to stay creative / healthy?

I try not to think about anything one thing too much and just listen to my body and how I'm feeling. Some days I'm really exhausted and I just allow myself to rest. My partner and I go for walks around our neighborhood and talk about all the news he's read so far that day. We got a piano a few months ago and he plays it almost every day. I usually go to the other room to play guitar and our cat gets upset and finds a place to hide until it stops.

4) You have to pick just 3 records to listen to till this is over. What are they?

I can't do it. I'm afraid of how long this will last.

5) Food Time! Have you been cooking in or carrying out? Favorite recipes or restaurants you're supporting? What's in the liquor cabinet? Share your quarantine eating and drinking habits and changes!

I enjoy cooking from time to time but after a couple of weeks of making every meal, I was starting to lose my mind. We've ordered a good amount of carryout since then. We were really excited to get a pie from Five Points Pizza the other night since they haven't been available since the business was hit by the tornado last month. My favorite local veggie burger (but really it's about those parmesan truffle french fries) is from Burger Up and the East Nashville location was wiped out by the tornado so I've been going through withdrawal. I made some homemade french fries that turned out pretty great using the Pioneer Woman's recipe. We love the zucchini muffins from Portland Brew and since they're closed I decided to try making some at home. They came out pretty good.

Thanks! Any final thoughts you would like to share?

Please stay home and be kind to yourself and those you live with.
