It's easy to miss things these days. Despite more information than ever at our fingertips I’ve never felt more out of touch. For example, Bob Dylan played my hometown of Columbus, Ohio a couple of weeks ago and I never even heard about it until people posted pictures the next day. Somehow the interwebs knew I would be interested in seeing pictures of friends attending the show but news of the event never reached me until it was too late. INCONCEIVABLE!
So with that in mind I thought it was worth mentioning these two songs that were recently released which somehow might have escaped your attention. Which seems impossible considering who we are talking about, but then again I missed Bob Dylan so better safe than sorry.
Usually we just focus on one tune but I thought since these were both singles released the same week from musicians who have been performing a combined 143 years we could lump them together. I bet if I told John, Bruce and Mick in 1975 they would all be releasing new music in the year 2021 they would have locked me up. Anyway, they did and I have to say the results aren’t half bad. Not bad at all. (I know the Stones tune has a history but they did release it and insert it into their live sets so that counts for me)
(Ricki C. here: Just to flesh out this blog entry a bit, Colin asked me to find & link my favorite Bruce Springsteen piece that I’ve done for Pencil Storm, so here ya go…..The Perfect Age For Rock & Roll, part two (largely about Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band live in Columbus; April 5th, 1976.)
