Every rock & roll fan knows some great songs out of Boston, Massachusetts, the Cradle of the American Revolution: the J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, The Cars, ‘til tuesday, even those corporate-rock twerps Boston, whose “More Than A Feeling” was a constant source of annoyance to me on the radio in 1976 while some of the songs detailed below SHOULD HAVE BEEN dominating the airwaves.
Anyway – submitted for your approval – here are the Five Best Boston, MA. Rock & Roll Songs That You’ve Never Heard…….
(ps. This blog SHOULD have commenced with “Mass Ave.” - the b-side of Willie Alexander’s “Kerouac” single from 1975 - but I couldn’t find it on YouTube.)

Apropos of the ‘til tuesday mention up top in the blog; in 1981 Aimee Mann (later of ‘til tuesday, at that time a member of The Young Snakes, a band I had read about in Boston Rock) was working as a cashier in the original Newbury Comics music store in Boston. I was in Boston on one of my Neighborhoods Weekends and she rang up my purchase of the Mission Of Burma signals, calls and marches e.p. “Oh my God, I LOVE this band,” Aimee enthused as I stood struck mute, fumbling with my money, thinking to myself, “This girl is one of the five prettiest women I have ever seen close up in my entire life.”
I stand by that sentiment to this day.
Here’s some bonus videos of both bands.

Ricki C. turned 70 last summer. Of all the punk scenes of the mid-1970’s - New York, England, Los Angeles, San Francisco - he thinks Boston’s was the best.
