Longtime Pencil Storm readers might be familiar with the band Why Isn’t Cheap Trick in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Once a year the quartet would play a free show of Cheap Trick music hoping to answer the question “Why isn’t Cheap Trick in the rock and roll hall of fame?” In 2016, Cheap Trick was inducted into the RRHOF. Soon after, the band, Why Isn’t Cheap Trick in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? disbanded due to creative differences and increasing dependence on controlled substances.
In January 2023, it was learned that founding drummer Herb Schupp’s private jet would be undergoing renovations for a new wet bar while on a stop-over in Columbus, Ohio. Since he would have five hours available, he reached out to former members to see if they would be interested in reforming for a one-night- only event. Singer Colin Gawel (The Wire) agreed under the condition the show would benefit a charity and Dave Masica (PatMcGee Band) offered his services on bongos provided copious amounts of controlled substances would be available. Mr. Schupp agreed to both terms and rounded out the lineup with Rick Kinsinger (Watershed), Scott Carr (Radio Tramps), Andy Hindman (League Bowlers, The Bottoms) and Marcy Mays (Scrawl).
Teenage Fanclub Fanclub will be opening the show at 8 pm sharp with Cheap Trick for Charity to follow. Cash donations will be taken at the door (no actual goods please) to benefit Heart to Heart Food Pantry. You can learn more and donate here. Click here for Woodlands Tavern.
