I’m trying this new “catching up” format to get me posting updates in a little more timely manner. Life comes at you fast. This post comes to you from O’Reilly’s Pub in Clintonville.
Headlines:
Our good pal Brian Phillips (formerly of CD-92.9) is back doing Trending Topics on his own every weekday morning and if that wasn’t good enough, he is playing a new Watershed tune every day for 12 days. Click here for the link to listen to Brian whenever you are able.
I just finished dropping off the new Watershed record Blow It Up Before It Breaks at all the local record stores and WCBE. Biggie was driving the van and also along for the ride was our newly hired Senior Vice President of Promotions and Radio Publicity Brian Phillips. Brian is excited to join the Watershed team and help us introduce this exciting new product into the Columbus marketplace. To learn more or share more use #wshed on social media. If you follow Watershed on Facebook you know the rollout didn’t go smoothly, as I spent more money buying records at the various shops we stopped at than we took in selling records. And as Brian said, “That’s bad business.”
The Watershed record is currently available at: Lost Weekend Records, Elizabeth Records, Used Kids Records, Spoonful Records and RPM Records. Blow It Up hits streaming on May 28th, and a new promo video should drop that day as well.
Other stuff:
Oh, I went to London and Paris for seven days. Eventually I will write more about this journey but there is no time for that now. It was my first time in London and it was a blast, but Paris is my jam. Love that town.
Straight off the plane home from Heathrow, I caught Cheap Trick opening for Heart at the Enormodome in Cbus. Traded some new Watershed records for free tickets so that was an offer I couldn’t refuse. Set highlights included “Tonight It’s You,” “Light The Fire” and…..”The Ballad of TV Violence.” When I told Marcy Mays they played that at the Rock Candy/Montrose gig she almost fainted.
Yes, I played in a Montrose cover band called Rock Candy for the You Matter Benefit at Natalie’s Grandview. The Rock Candy set was: “Rock The Nation,” “Good Rockin’ Tonight,” “Rock Candy,” and “Bad Motor Scooter.” And as much fun as it was playing those songs, mental health awareness & suicide prevention is a very serious subject. Remember that no matter how dark it gets you are never alone. Talk to somebody.
In related news, I talked to everybody when I played the Tree Bar Takeover at Little Rock Bar alongside Fletch and Jon Chinn. So great to connect with so many old friends and musicians. Quinn Fallon means more to the 614 music scene than anyone could possibly appreciate. And hearing Jon play his classic tune “I Can’t Believe You Live Like That” brought a tear of joy to my eye.
Random Thoughts:
Overheard at Colin’s Coffee: “The flag has been at half-mast for so much the past ten years, I think the appropriate question now is, “Why is the flag at full mast?”
Jocks Kicking the K-nowledge?
Kansas City Chiefs place kicker Harrison Butker recently made some allegedly inappropriate and offensive comments delivering a commencement speech to college graduates. Forget the content, my question is: What kind of respectable university hires a 28-year old football player (a kicker no less) to share his wisdom on graduation day? Unless he is sharing where the closest Big Head Burrito shop is after last call, I don’t think our future leaders need to hear life advice from a PK.
I should note my alma matter Ohio State University hired some crypto-currency Tik-Tok guy to give its commencement speech and apparently it was so bad I owe Harrison Butker an apology. In his defense, the OSU speaker openly confessed to tripping his balls off while both writing and delivering his speech, so apparently he was taking a literally “higher” education approach.
