In Memoriam: Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull has passed away at the age of 78. She was probably best known as Mick Jagger’s girlfriend in the Stones’ ‘60s heyday, but she was a talented & beautiful artist and actress in her own right. She had a bona fide hit with “As Tears go By” and it’s often assumed that song, as well as “Wild Horses” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” were about her.

She managed to avoid the death curse others in the Stones’ circle suffered after conquering a heroin addiction in the ‘70s and releasing a celebrated comeback album that sparked a career resurgence after. In her later years she sang with Metallica on their song “The Memory Remains” on their Reload album in 1997, occasionally popping up on stage with the band, and at their December 1997 Saturday Night Live appearance, exposing her to an entirely new audience.

Rest easy, Marianne. They don’t make `em like that any more.
