Bowlers drummer Dave Masica explained, “Public Lands didn’t just want a kick-ass rock n roll band for their grand opening celebration, they wanted a band who were also athletes so the Bowlers checked both of those boxes. Obviously. It’s really a no-brainer and we are honored to be part of such a special day.”
Rumors were swirling that another Columbus act, The Floorwalkers, were favored to land this prestigious gig but the name sounded too sedentary for the active shoppers Public Lands is hoping to attract to their new location at Polaris Mall in Columbus, Ohio. “If they were called The Floor-joggers or even steppers we probably could have made it work but we couldn’t reach an agreement,” confirmed an un-named source working closely behind the scenes.
Masica is looking forward to checking out the giant indoor climbing wall and is especially excited they will be selling beer at the event. “Public Lands brand is for athletes and folks who pursue an active lifestyle. The League Bowlers actively pursue beer at all of our gigs so there is a lot of synergy and shit going on. It’s going to be a great time.”
Asked about his own bowling background, Masica said, “Though I have never bowled myself, I used to spend a lot of time at the Capri Lanes lounge before the smoking ban, so I think I have a pretty good feel for the sport.”
